W. Blair Gibbens (1899-1985) became a municipal traffic court judge in Santa Monica, California and was known for quirky sentences. He would sentence drunk drivers to watch films of the results of traffic accidents, for example, and bring a casket into the courtroom to illustrate the dangers of reckless driving.
