Spanish War Service Medal, numbered “7624”. Issued to Benjamin B. Cannon, Milton, Pennsylvania.

Captain Benjamin B. Cannon initially enlisted in 1891 and was mustered in to federal service in May 1898 as a first lieutenant. He was promoted to captain in May 18998 and mustered out in October 1898. He served in the 12th Pennsylvania Infantry, which did not the United States during the war. Some 21 men died of disease during the regiment’s service.
