Soldier’s Medal, slot brooch, hand-engraved “William W./Jordan”. With some scratching over the naming to erase it; pendant dark.

Sergeant William W. Johnson, of Trenton, New Jersey, went to the aid of a drowning swimmer in the ocean off Ft. Hancock, New Jersey, in August 1942. The swimmer had become exhausted by the undertow and was unconscious when his rescuers finally reached him. Johnson and the others pulled the swimmer to shore and applied artificial respiration, returning him to consciousness. Johnson was assigned to the Ft. Hancock station hospital at the time.
