Newman”, marked “BB&B/Phila” on the suspension; Army Commendation Medal, crimp-over-slot brooch, machine-engraved “James E. Newman”; World War I Victory Medal, clasps “Aisne”, “Champagne-Marne”, “Aisne-Marne”, “St. Mihiel”, “Meuse-Argonne” and “Defensive Sector”, with ribbon bar with 6 bronze stars; World War I Occupation Medal, slot brooch; World War II Victory Medal. Master Sergeant James E. Newman served from April 1914 through January 1948. He served with Ambulance Company No. 7 from 1914 through October 1919. Sgt Newman was cited for gallantry in 3rd Division General Orders 22: “Soldier exhibited a very high devotion to duty as platoon leader in ambulance section, making possible prompt evacuation of wounded at Montfaucon, France, October 4th-30th, 1918″. During World War II, he served in the Panama Canal Zone as the Battalion Sergeant Major of the 176th Ordnance Battalion. He received a Letter of Commendation for meritorious service in that position from December 1944 to October 1945, and he was authorized to wear the Army Commendation Ribbon. MSgt Newman also qualified for a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and American Campaign Medal.
