USS Brooklyn was the flagship of Commodore Schley’s Flying Squadron. This is a Phase I medal with a wire pin-catch. McDonald is confirmed on the ship’s roll. In the Phase I distribution, the ship received the medal with this reverse. In the Phase III distribution, bars were added for actions at Santiago on June 6, June 16 and July 2.
