Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GV, (341857 J.E.T. Barnard, Painter 1Cl, HMS Hawke).

Barnard later served aboard HMS Hampshire, when that cruiser was carrying Lord Kitchener and his staff on a diplomatic mission to Russia. The ship hit a mine and quickly sank, taking 737 men to the bottom, including Kitchener and Barnard.
