Purple Heart, slot brooch, composition center, numbered “405743”, hand-engraved “Vaughan M. Weatherby”.

Staff Sergeant Weatherby died 12 June 1944 in Normandy, while part of the 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. The 12th Infantry, spearheaded the 4th Division’s assault on Normandy’s Utah Beach on 6 June 1944. SSgt Weatherby was buried at Arlington National Cemetery at his family’s request.
