2Lt Rundy was killed in action on 3 February 1945, when his B-17 was hit by flak and exploded while on a 1000-plane raid to Berlin. He was a navigator with the 350th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group. Rundy was from Cincinnati and was on his first combat mission when he was killed on his 26th birthday. Initially buried in a German cemetery, his remains were buried at Neuville, Belgium, and then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio,
