Purple Heart, gilt split brooch, hand-engraved “1st Lt/James B. Lacey, Jr./USMCR”. In its original purple coffin case.

Lieutenant Lacey was killed in action 20 December 1943 near Bougainville. He was part of VMSB-236, flying the SBD Dauntless, based on Guadalcanal and participating in operations in the Bougainville area. Lt Lacey is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery, Philippines.
