Ohio. Civil War Service Medal, “Joel Howe, Co A,20th Regt, Infy”. Missing the cotter pins; small corrosion spots.

The 20th Regiment was organized at Columbus in 1861 and served across the South, seeing major action at Shiloh, Vicksburg and Atlanta. The regiment lost 89 men killed and another 271 to disease. Two men of the regiment earned the Medal of Honor.
