Navy Philippine Campaign Medal, “114” (RADM Ammen Farenholt, MC)

Navy Philippine Campaign Medal, numbered “114”. Confirmed on the roll as issued to RADM Ammen Farenholt, Medical Corps.

Farenholt, born in Virginia in 1871, received his medical degree from Harvard in 1893 and entered the Navy in 1894.  After extensive sea duty, he was stationed at Mare Island and then took command of the hospital ship Mercy in 1921. He later commanded the Naval Hospitals on Mare Island, Great Lakes and Puget Sound.  Promoted to rear admiral in 1926, he served as medical inspector of Naval Medical Corps activities on the East Coast. and, later, held a similar position on the West Coast. RADM Farenholt retired in 1936 and died in 1956.
