Navy Good Conduct Medal, slot brooch, impressed “Robert/Emmett/Cary”.

Seaman Second Class Robert Emmett Carey was killed when USS Grayback (SS-208) was hit by Japanese bomber off the coast of Okinawa on 26 February 1944. The boat sank immediately with all hands. Carey is commemorated in the Courts of the Missing, National Cemetery of the Pacific. He was from Warren, Ohio. The wreck location of the boat had been incorrectly plotted for decades before it was discovered off Okinawa in 2019.
