Group to Lt General Charles Bainbridge Westover, US Air Force: Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, unnamed; Army Distinguished Service Medal, slot brooch, machine-engraved “C.B. Westover” in an arc on the reverse above the eagle; Legion of Merit, with two oak leaf clusters, crimp brooch, unnamed; Distinguished Flying Cross, one oak leaf cluster, unnamed; Bronze Star, slot brooch, unnamed; Air Medal, with four oak leaf clusters, wrap brooch, unnumbered, unnamed. General Westover also held the French Croix de Guerre and Order of the British Empire.

Lt Gen Charles B. Westover, son of Maj Gen Oscar Westover, USAAF, was a 1937 West Point graduate. His first assignment was with the 19th Bomb Group, where he took part on a mass flight of bombers from California to Hawaii in 1941. In 1942, he was the executive officer of a special air mission to the Soviet Union. He commanded the 448th Bomb Group in Europe. During the Korean War, he commanded the 98th Bomb Wing, Yokota, Japan. After a year as assistant deputy chief of staff, operations at Headquarters, US Air Force, General Westover became the vice commander of the Tactical Air Command. In 1965, he became vice commander of Air Defense Command. General Westover retired in 1967 as a lieutenant general and died in Florida in July 1978.
