Group of three medals to David N. Kurtz, US Marine Corps: Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, hand-engraved “No.A3665/David/N. Kurtz/4th Enlistment/1937-1941″; Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, numbered “M.No.6386″, wrap brooch; Yangtze Service Medal, Marine Corps, numbered “M.No.3888″. With a Marine Corps Expert Marksman Badge, with bars “SS-Pistol” and “Ex-Auto-Rifle”; two Honorably Discharged buttons and a ribbon bar for the Expeditionary and Yangtze medals. The medal ribbons show age and wear.
Kurtz, born in 1899 in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, served with the 4th Marines in China in 1924. In 1928, he was convicted of unspecified charges by a Special Court Martial and, in 1931, he was hospitalized in Haiti with malaria. He served at least through the end of World War II and applied for a state pension in 1950.
