Group of four to Sp4 Jimmie J. Emo, 8th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division: Bronze Star, with “V” device, unnamed; Air Medal, slot brooch, unnamed; Army Commendation Medal, with “V” device and two oak leaf clusters, unnamed; Purple Heart, slot brooch, unnamed. With the original Bronze Star certificate “for heroism in ground combat” on 6 May 1969 in Vietnam (certificate dated 22 June 1969). With copied award data, including the full citation for the Bronze Star: “When his unit became engaged with a large enemy force, Sp4 Emo left the security of his bunker and engaged the enemy forces. He constantly exposed himself to the hostile fire and although wounded neutralized a bunker held by the enemy with a grenade.” During the action, Sp4 Emo received a gunshot wound in the leg and shrapnel in the chest. His Commendation Medal with “V” was for his actions on 6 May 1969, when he helped repel an attack on Landing Zone Carolyn. His other Commendation Medals are also verified.  The certificate shows some staining from framing.
