Group of four to John Robert Sutphin, US Navy: Navy Good Conduct Medal, slot brooch, impressed “John/Robert/Sutphin”; Yangtze Service Medal, Navy, wrap brooch, numbered “M.No.12528″; American Defense Service Medal, slot brooch, clasp “Fleet”; World War II Victory Medal. With a photo of a chief petty officer in uniform, believed to be Sutphin.

In December 1941, Sutphin was a Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate at the Receiving Station, Norfolk, Virginia (received from the 5th Naval District). He died on active duty in Portsmouth, Virginia, in May 1942, hence the undated Good Conduct Medal. Sutphin is buried in Luray, Virginia.
