Group of five medals attributed to Private George Burckard, Company D, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry: Spanish Campaign Medal, second ribbon style, numbered “M.No.1028″; Cuban Occupation Medal, numbered “6468″, with ribbon bar and lapel pin; Massachusetts First Class Marksman Badge, with bullet”1896″, silver; Massachusetts Sharpshooter Badge, 1897, silver; Massachusetts US Volunteers Sharpshooter Badge 1898, marked “Hayes Bros.”

The attribution comes from a previous seller who stated that the medals came from the family estate of “George Burchard, New Haven, Connecticut”. There was a “George Burckard”, who enlisted 3 May 1898 and served in the 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, which was in action at El Caney, Cuba. While the Cuban Occupation Medal was intended for those who arrived after hostilities ended, in fact, it was commonly issued to soldiers who served in Cuba at any time.
