GAR. Past Post Commander’s Badge (David L. Hodges)
Grand Army of the Republic. An attributed Past Post Commander’s badge. A Type V badge (post-1886) with the campfire scene on the reverse of the top bar, unnumbered, with a blue-edged flag ribbon and a colonel’s shoulder strap in the middle of the ribbon (with a Massachusetts state shield suspended from that). In a velvet-lined presentation case with “David L. Hodges/Co. F 4th Regt. MVM/1st Brigade 3rd Division 19th Armory [sic] Corps/Department of the Gulf” imprinted in gold on the lid. The badge is in excellent condition, the case is scuffed and shows age.
Hodges mustered in and out as a private. The 4th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry mustered in September 23, 1862 and moved to Louisiana in early 1863, serving around Port Hudson. The regiment was mustered out in August 1863.
