China, Peoples Republic. Huai-hai Campaign Medal, 1948-1949. Pin-back.

The Huai-hai Campaign was the last major campaign by the Communist forces against Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist forces.  The Communists encircled several Nationalist Armies in Shandong Province and crushed them with devastating losses (over 500,000 casualties). The losses seriously weakened Chiang’s position and the Peoples Liberation Army moved south across the Yangtze River, effectively ending American support to Chiang’s Nationalist armies.
