A silver medal engraved “Oakland/Company” in the center shield, “1925” on a ribbon below that and “California Grays” on the lower obverse rim. Engraved “Presented to/H.G. Gould/for proficiency/in Drill”. With top bars “100% 1923″ and “100% 1924″. Marked “Sterling” by “W Co”.

The California Grays were founded in 1890. Not part of the National Guard, the unit functioned as a semi-official organization in service to the state in times of need, much like a State Guard.
