Neville Lorraine Smith attested in February 1940 in Sunbury, Victoria. He arrived in Batavia in March 1942 and was assigned to the 2/2 Army Field Workshop as a motor mechanic. Sergeant Smith was taken prisoner in late April 1942 and interned in Java. Released in September 1945, he was discharged in December 1945.
Smith’s medals (1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Defence, War and Australian Service Medals) were posted to him, but returned unclaimed in 1951. The Australian Service Medal was sent to him again in 1957.
