Army Distinguished Service Medal, reribboned on a slot brooch, hand-engraved “Col/C.H./Unger”. The ribbon is stained and aged and has been resewn at the brooch.
Col Charles Herman Unger was commissioned as a cavalry officer in 1917 and was promoted to colonel in 1941. Col Unger served with the 1st Cavalry Division and I Corps in Korea. He died on active duty (non-combat) on 16 March 1951 in Japan and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He also held a Legion of Merit and Commendation Ribbon,
