American Volunteer Guard, Asmara, Eritrea, Rifle Match Medal, 1943. A silver Italian-made pendant inscribed “Tiro a Segno Nazional” on the obverse. The reverse is engraved “American/Volunteer/Guard/Rifle Match/High Score/Asmara, Eritrea/1943”. On a narrow ribbon mounted on a safety pin-type of top bar.

The American Volunteer Guard, Eritrean Service Command, was made of American civilians employed by the US Army in Eritrea. They were ultimately granted veteran status by the Veterans Administration.
