Lt Colonel Richard E. Stanier (USMA, 1952) served with the 17th Infantry and 187th Airborne in Korea. After a tour in Europe, he became an advisor in Vietnam (1965). In 1969, he returned to Vietnam, commanding a company in 5th Special Forces Group. Lt Col Stanier retired in 1972 and died in January 2017. With copied research.

Lt Colonel Stanier held the Legion of Merit (two awards), Bronze Star (4 awards), Air Medal (4 awards), Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with gold and silver stars, Armed Forces Honor Medal, first class and Civic Action Medal, first class.
