Air Medal, wrap brooch, unnumbered, privately machine-engraved “Bernard J. Amend”. In a black leatherette case with ribbon bar and lapel pin.

Captain Bernard J. Amend initially served in the 128th Infantry, Wisconsin National Guard, before attending Officer Candidate School and flight training. After completing a tour in Europe, he was sent back to the United States for further training to prepare him for deployment to the Pacific. The war ended before he was to deploy, however. Amend remained in the Air Force Reserve at least through the 1950s. After the war, he served as county clerk in Portage County, Wisconsin. Born in February 1920, Amend died in May 1976 and is buried in Portage. His Air Medal was awarded in IX Troop Carrier Command General Orders #71 (18 May 1945).
