Lt Col Boop was born in 1919 and joined the Army National Guard in November 1939. From 1941 through 1945, he served as a staff sergeant (artillery). He was commissioned in January 1945 as served as the executive officer, Battery C, 116th Field Artillery Battalion (31st Infantry Division). From 1946 through 1951, Lt Col Boop served in the Army Reserve. Then, from 1951 through 1954, he served with the 393rd Field Artillery in Germany, commanding a battery. In July 1956, Lt Col Boop went to Saigon, Vietnam, as part of the Military Assistance and Advisory Group, serving as an artillery advisor for a year. From 1962 through 1965, he served in Germany. From 1965 through 1968, he served with the 6th Artillery Group, Fort Bliss, Texas, as the group executive officer, and received the Legion of Merit for that service. Lt Col Boop retired in July 1969 and died in 1974. He is buried in El Paso, Texas.
