West Virginia. Civil War Service Medal, “Honorably Discharged” top bar, impressed “Ml Herrington Co I 10th Regt Inf Vols”. In its original box of issue, with Herrington’s name on the lid.

The 10th Infantry initially served as railroad guards in West Virginia, but later took part in Sheridan’s Shenandoah Campaign and the actions around Petersburg. The regiment lost 95 men in action and another146 to disease.
