Master Sergeant James E. Newman served from April 1914 through January 1948. He served with Ambulance Company No. 7 from 1914 through October 1919. Sgt Newman was cited for gallantry in 3rd Division General Orders 22: “Soldier exhibited a very high devotion to duty as platoon leader in ambulance section, making possible prompt evacuation of wounded at Montfaucon, France, October 4th-30th, 1918″. During World War II, he served in the Panama Canal Zone as the Battalion Sergeant Major of the 176th Ordnance Battalion. He received a Letter of Commendation for meritorious service in that position from December 1944 to October 1945, and he was authorized to wear the Army Commendation Ribbon. MSgt Newman also qualified for a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and American Campaign Medal.
