Silver Star, “Gordon K. Aubrey”, 345th Infantry, 86th Division

Silver Star, slot brooch, machine-engraved “Gordon K./Aubrey”. In a black leatherette case. With extensive original documentation, including: copies of 87th Infantry Division General Order 8 listing Aubrey’s Silver Star; Aubrey’s OCS graduation program; press release on Aubrey’s Silver Star, and others. With copied Officer Qualification Record, dated 1955, giving his military biography, a full list of awards and a copy of his Bronze Star citation.

1Lt Aubrey received the Silver Star “for gallantry in action against an armed enemy near Seyweiler, Germany, on 17 December 1944. Without regard for his own safety, Lieutenant Aubrey went across an area covered by intense enemy fire to aid his wounded men. He carried the wounded men from the field to a location offering more protection, where he quickly and competently administered first aid.. Lieutenant Aubrey’s exceptional bravery in the face of personal danger and his loyalty to his wounded men exemplify the highest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.” At the time, he was assigned to the 345th Infantry. In February 1945, Aubrey was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism near Olzheim, Germany, when he searched for several hours for four missing men. He found two of them wounded, and carried them to safety.

Aubrey was born in Oklahoma City in February 1910. He enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard in 1926, serving until 1935, when he enlisted in the US Army. He graduated from OCS in 1943, serving in Europe and, later, in Korea as a supply officer. He retired as a major in 1957. Major Aubrey died in December 1986.
