Pair to Chester D. Woodside: Purple Heart, split brooch, hand-engraved “Chester D./Woodside”, numbered “22430”, in matching-numbered Bailey, Banks and Biddle box of issue (split at the corners); World War I Victory Medal, clasps “Champagne-Marne”, “Aisne-Marne”, “St. Mihiel”, “Meuse-Argonne” and “Defensive Sector”.

With copied award card data showing Private Chester D. Woodside, Company E, 101st Infantry, 26th Division, was wounded in action 25 October 1918 and received his Purple Heart in November 1932. He was cited for gallantry “for act during the St. Mihiel salient, September 12th to 14th, 1918″, but the award card notes the citation, specifying “not warranting any decoration”. His brother, Irving R. Woodside, also of Company E, 101st Infantry, was killed in action on 28 October 1918.
