Purple Heart, “John V. Barry”, 90th Bomb Group

Purple Heart, slot brooch, hand-engraved “John V./Barry”. 2Lt John V. Barry, 321st Bomb Squadron, 90th Bomb Group (Jolly Rogers) was killed 11 November 1943 when his B-24 collided with another B-24 while attempting to land after an aborted mission to Rabaul. Barry’s aircraft exploded on impact, killing all aboard the B-24D “Jack Pot”. Barry was from Far Rockaway, New York. He held the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
