MOLLUS Medal (Lt W. H. Myers, 34th NJ Inf)
Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. Membership medal, first class, numbered “17594” on the loop. With research showing it was awarded to Lt William Henry Myers in May 1917. Excellent enamel; the ribbon shows wear at the folds and the brooch is loose.
Myers enlisted 1 August 1861 into the 14th US Infantry, serving through January 1863 (The Peninsula and Chancellorsville). He was then commissioned the 34th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, serving with that unit through May 1864 in Kentucky. In 1866, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 38th US Infantry, a black regiment later consolidated with the 24th Infantry. Myers joined the Kansas Commandery of the MOLLUS in May 1917. He died in July 1923 and is buried in Rosedale, Kansas.
