Group to Frank Castro, 47th US Volunteers
Group of three to Private Frank Castro, 47th US Volunteers: Philippine Campaign Medal, Army, numbered “M.No.3095”; Missouri Spanish-American War Service Medal, in its original issue box; miniature United Spanish War Veterans membership medal, in its original box of issue, with “received March 11th/40” on the top; a small gilt and enamel 8th Corps badge, pin-back. With a bronze coin, buffed smooth, engraved on one side “Found/by/Frank Castro/In Legaspi/Luzon/Pi”.
Frank Castro was born in St. Louis and enlisted in Philadelphia. He served from September 1899 through July 1901, participating in actions at Cabusay, Libog, Tollgate and Legaspi. In 1909, Castro entered a National Home for Disabled Veteran Soldiers, but left in 1912 at his own request. His disability must not have too severe, as he lived until January 1957.
